What An Aluminium Kitchen Cabinet Actually Is
An aluminium kitchen cabinet uses an aluminium frame and carcass in place of the plywood or particle board box that sits under most kitchens. The doors can still be almost anything you like — glass, acrylic, laminate, woodgrain or a plain matte slab — but the structure holding everything up is metal.
That one substitution changes how the kitchen ages. Board absorbs water at its edges, and in a Malaysian wet kitchen it eventually swells around the sink and under the hob. Aluminium does not absorb anything, so the box stays the same shape in year eight as it was on installation day.

Is an aluminium kitchen cabinet really 100% waterproof?
The aluminium itself absorbs no water at all, so the carcass will not swell, warp or delaminate the way a board-based cabinet eventually can. That is what the phrase refers to. The rest of the kitchen still needs to be built properly — the sealing around the sink and the worktop joints matter just as much, and no material substitutes for a clean installation.
Is aluminium really termite-proof?
Termites feed on cellulose, which is what wood and board are made of. An aluminium frame contains none, so there is nothing in the carcass for them to eat and nothing to treat. Any timber elsewhere in the kitchen — a solid wood shelf or trim, for instance — is still worth thinking about.
Does an aluminium kitchen have to look industrial?
No. The aluminium is the structure; the doors are what you see. Glass, acrylic, laminate, woodgrain and matte slab fronts all fit an aluminium frame, so the kitchen can read minimalist, warm or almost anything in between. The slim frame profile is actually what makes a clean, handleless minimalist look easier to achieve.
Can aluminium cabinets be handleless?
Yes, and it is one of the things aluminium does particularly well. A routed J-profile pull along the top edge of the door, or push-to-open hardware, gives you a completely flat door face with nothing protruding. Because the cabinets are built to your measurements, that line runs unbroken across the whole kitchen.
Aluminium or plywood — which should I choose?
Aluminium where the water is: the wet kitchen, the sink run, a condo with poor ventilation. Plywood where the look matters most and the space stays dry, because it takes a warmer, more classic finish. Many of the kitchens we build use both. How long does an aluminium kitchen take to build?
Usually three to six weeks from the day the design is confirmed and the deposit is paid, depending on the size of the project and the materials. The actual dates go into your quotation rather than being left as a vague estimate.
